Hello and welcome to our vintage front porch – it’s all ready for Fall – even though the weather didn’t receive the “get ready for Fall” memo – haha – man it was HOT when I was out there vignetting! In this tour I will be sharing some fall ideas and some of the ways we stay cozy on the porch when the weather does finally decide to change… because here in Canada it will change and it gets C O L D! We love to stay outside and enjoy our porch for as long as possible – it’s simply the best place to sit and watch while the seasons change.
That AND enjoy a morning coffee or a doggie nap every now and then.
Welcome to the Fall Ideas Tour
I’m joining in with 25 creative friends today for this the last day of the annual Fall Ideas Tour, YAY, it’s porch day!!!! Stick around to see all of the very clever ideas at the end of my post though because this tour started on Monday and it’s chock-full of ideas!! (I am such a lucky girl, I get to surround myself with such gracious and creative souls) Our lovely hostess and my bud, Angie from Postcards from The Ridge hosts and organizes this tour every year and I’m so thankful for her, thank you friend for assembling such a wonderful and supportive group! xoox
Another way to follow the tour is by following this hashtag on Instagram #FallIdeasTour, now on to the porch…
Welcome to Our Home
Our Dodi is always on duty, she’s ready for those pesky squirrels to attack at any time! Oh boy! hahaha
Bud and I have been here for 5 years now, I honestly can not believe that much time has passed already! We are constantly working on projects – it’s what we do… and it’s a running joke in our house actually… when one projects ends and we’re exhausted and saying phew, “we’re glad that’s over”, there is usually a small pause – a minute… (more like a second) and either one of us usually says… “You know, I was thinking”… and bam into and onto the next project! We’re even calling some of those in-between projects “side projects” – “It’s a side project, so it shouldn’t take too long”! WE LIE! hahahaha Seriously we need help! 😉 Why the big long story, well I’m telling you all of that because our front porch (and garden) has been on our project list for a LONG time! But life has a funny way of changing priorities… so I share this space because even though I see a space I want to renovate (don’t get me wrong, we LOVE our porch – it just needs some work). So, I just go ahead and treat this space like it’s already “perfect” and I pretend it’s just the way I like it already. The point, Laurie? The point is, do what makes you happy with what you have and do it now – don’t wait for everything to be just so.
Lots of blankets for a quick grab on those the cool crisp days and nights that are guaranteed to come… or a spontaneous picnic (in a vintage truck maybe?), if the mood strikes. I’m always chilly so these throws are also a welcome addition when sitting around the fire-pit in the evenings.
Our Rustic Cottage
This front porch is our little slice of heaven it’s where we sit for as long as possible with all the cozy blankets when the air has a chill… morning coffee tastes the best out on the porch, for some reason! 😉 I think of this space as our rustic cottage.
Moving our headboard bench from the kitchen on to the porch and placing it in front of the rustic mantel gives some extra seating for company and – the rocking chairs on the end of the porch will eventually be put into storage this winter and in it’s place, our firewood will be stored there. One of the huge bonuses of having a large porch is we don’t have to go to the wood shed every time we need a refill of wood in the house.
This very simple mantel/shelf decor is created with a vintage crate, an interesting ivy and small pumpkins with faux fall branches tucked in for interest. I love this layered simplicity so much.
We love this mantel… love that it’s chippy and very rustic and it’s simple design! We’ve added some twinkle lights too and some vintage architectural salvage, I love it’s dark contrast and all of the lovely scrolls – I used another interesting piece for our Fall living room tour, so pretty! I love this colour combo too and I think our little friend approves.
Isn’t he cute tucked in for a little snooze… it’s so kind of him to match the decor don’t you think?! Don’t let his cuteness fool you though, this “little” fella leaves behind some very large droppings… I’m not even kidding!
We don’t have anything out here on the porch that is super precious, don’t get me wrong, we love our vintage treasures – but chippy and rusty and worn is how we roll and that makes for a very relaxed atmosphere a little rain or a frog poop or two won’t make me lose my mind! HAHAHA Checking to see if everyone reads! 😉
Rustic Potting Bench
We made this rustic potting bench this past summer, I’m still so in love with how it turned out too! You can see more on this potting bench here if you’re curious.
White pumpkins – there is just something so pretty about them, I love propping them up on some of my vintage goodies. I like combining all the coloured pumpkins together actually… it just makes me feel like it’s really Fall. I’d LOVE to have my own pumpkin patch one day.
I love wrapping raffia around my urn plants, it looks like straw and it makes it look cozy and finished. AND sunflowers, I am madly in love with them – give me all of the sunflowers please! Maybe a sunflower garden too?
Sigh…
I’ve added in some brown apothecary bottles amongst some of the clear bottles that were there for summer – I love having these bottles for cutoffs – some flowers are still coming up in the garden – surprise. I can also use these little sweeties for any flowers I might bring home from a walk.
Porch Vignettes
I love using citronella in our working lantern… we still get some mosquitos late into the fall and hello cute red lantern hanging on a ladder – LOVE.
Different coloured gourds and some antlers just feel like fall to me.
When putting a plant into a vintage crate I always line the pot with a garbage bag, I use that as a barrier between my crate and the water it keeps my beloved crates safe from damage.
More bottles for flowers – I simply love that glass colour.
Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope you’ve found some inspiration for your own outdoor spaces – I’ve enjoyed sharing our porch along with my other porch gurus today! Now I invite you to go visit with my blogging friends start at the beginning so you don’t miss a thing – I personally can not wait to take all of their tours. xo
Happy Fall!

Laurie, I love everything about your porch. All the yummy cozy finds and the way you put it all together is so inviting. I wish I lived nearby and could come over for a cup of tea or glass of wine and sit and gab with you on that beautiful porch.
Your porch looks so comfortable and I love the way you decorated it for fall. I hope that you and Bud enjoy many mornings and evenings out there before it gets too cold to enjoy.

Laurie,
Your porch is just dreamy. I adore all of the rustic, vintage elements and you have such a knack for styling and photographing everything. Don’t be surprised if you walk out there one day and find me sitting there under one of those cozy throw blankets. Just kiddding. That would be totally creepy wouldn’t it? Anyway, it’s all so lovely. Thanks so much for joining the tour again this year, sweet friend!
