Hi Besties, welcome to our Vintage Fall Mantel and the fantastic 2021 Harvest Home Blog Tour! I’m so happy to be joining in with my fall loving friends today! Our lovely host Kristi, from French Creek Farmhouse has gathered all of us together to inspire and share our homes for the best season of all! (IMHO)
You will not want to miss all of the goodness you will find at the end of my post! There you will discover inspiring fall spaces, some outdoor living, entryways, fireplace mantels, tablescapes, living rooms, crafts and recipes! I mean, wowzers! I get to join my blogging friends and I’m sharing our Vintage Fall Mantel – that’s a win win in my books! I’m pretty happy with how it turned out and I hope you will love it too!
A Harvest Home
Our tour’s theme is, “Harvest Home”. Harvest the technical meaning; “the time of year when crops are cut and collected from the fields, or the activity of cutting and collecting them, or the crops that are cut and collected.” While I didn’t go into the fields, I did go into nature to gather.
I had fun harvesting in nature and was drawn to all of the textures and muted colours this year. And vintage too of course! Some of the lovely things I found, a precious nest on a branch and gorgeous feathers (I can’t resist them). I also collected an abandoned wasp nest, they are pure marvels of nature if you ask me. The details and symmetry are perfection, don’t you think!?
Does any one else get giddy when they find an abandoned and lone bird’s nest? I mean what’s not to love!? So pretty with foraged blue jay feathers.
I also “harvested” some wonderful fall foliage from Michael’s, the muted faux eucalyptus caught my eye. And I particularly like how real they looked and added fall colours into the mantel vignettes. Combining them with other textures (more feathers and branches) made them much more interesting.
Fall Vintage Mantel
Adding to our fall mantel is a vintage copper pedestal and cloche filled with goodness. An antique embroidery hoop with pretty contrasting white ribbon, a rusty bed spring with feathers and pretty pink faded faux blooms. The copper is a lovely pop of fall colour and is the perfect complement to all of the beautiful teal bottles.
It’s no secret that I adore using vintage and antique goodies as home decor. I LOVE how these beautiful relics add unique flair to our home! It’s a very rare thing for me to go into a retail store and buy new… I think this habit started when we were first married, two broke kids wanting to make our “nest” our very own cozy home. This practice has stuck with me all these years later and I am grateful.
Coloured Bottles
So charming, right?! I can imagine these filled with ink and being used for some important and busy work.
I am smitten with the iridescent inkwells, they truly are some of my favourites!
Pretty bottles in a row, sigh.
The reflections, the colour all of it just works so wonderfully together.
Vintage bottles are my kryptonite (if you can’t tell), I love them all! Demijohns, inkwells, antique and vintage medicine bottles… they intrigue me and when they are teal, I’m hooked!
Levels and Layers Of Goodness
I seem to gravitate towards all things wooden too. I am obsessed with wooden vintage blocks that were once used in cash register drawers (to hold change), they are just beautifully worn pieces. If they are priced reasonably I usually will always buy them. I use these pieces to elevate and create different levels in my vignettes, this time I am using them to lift the sweet little inkwells.
Antique tool box drawers are another way I like to add texture and movement. My favourite element of vintage is the way things were used back in the day, how people reused and repurposed every scrap of wood, or leather or anything that was considered useful. This toolbox was clearly made from scrap wood, to hold all of the helpful tools needed.
The long wooden tool box plays nicely off of the antique, Camp Borden photo. This antique photo is so special, I am loving how the muted colours fit right into our fall mantel and how the length balances the wooden boxes.
The colour of the inkwells contrast so nicely off of the wood and the antique photo too.
The Final Look
My creative process usually just happens and I’m often well into the thick of it before I even think to take any before snaps. 😉 Oops, here is a photo (from my phone) with the little messes, a very real life look.
And now the final look of our simple vintage fall mantel. What do you think? Do you harvest natural elements for your fall decor too, do you use vintage as home decor? I love when happy little accidents happen, my existing wool blanket ties the whole fall look together. I’m very happy with how cozy our living room is all ready for Autumn.
Bringing the outdoors in, always a favourite way to decorate for fall.
I was second guessing myself, thinking I should add some pumpkins. The nice thing about decorating early is that I can add additional fall elements if I want to, but for now I am loving this autumn look as is.
Thank you so much for stopping in and having a peek at our vintage fall mantel, I hope find it as cozy as I do?! xo
I’m thrilled to be joining in today as 30 talented bloggers bring you the best of all things home!

So many interesting things to look at! And that mantel beam is super cool–love it!
Thank you Kathleen! We bought that beam from a local man and took it to power spray it in a large car wash. Then we customized it to fit perfectly onto our massive fireplace. We love it!
