Hello Friends! Today I am sharing the “cherry on top” of our pantry makeover with you. If you’re curious about our reno you can read more about the pantry refresh here —> Pantry Laundry Room Makeover. While we did finish 90% of the makeover there was one outstanding item that needed fixing. Our very outdated and sun-faded brass door hardware on the exterior door… door hardware that for some reason never had keys when we bought our home, 7 years ago. Although we rarely use the door to go out onto the deck we occasionally do use it. Regardless of how often we go out of that door we still wanted it to look good and that’s where Schlage comes to the rescue! YAY!
Schlage
Who / what is Schlage? Well, Schlage is a company that has been making door knobs and hardware for 100 years! ONE hundred years! Wow, that ‘s just amazing! Walter Schlage actually invented the push button lock that we all know and use today. There is so much more fascinating history behind this company that I just didn’t know. I invite you to learn more about the story behind this wonderful brand with this video below. I couldn’t stop watching it myself, as you all know I am pretty much a sucker for vintage and the history behind it all! It was very informative and such a wonderful success story. Watching this made me appreciate our hardware even more.
Door Preparation
As you can see above, the brass door knob just doesn’t fit in with the pantry’s new ascetic… she just had to go. Bye-bye – don’t let the door hit ya on the way out! 😉 But first to 100% finish the pantry project; I had to paint the door (the same white as the walls – Behr ULTRA, whisper white – interior matte) and install the new Schlage matte black hardware! Happy Dance!
When I painted the door, I realized that the round back plates on the brass hardware would be covered by the new rectangular back plates, it was kind of freeing to just slap the paint on there. hahahaha Once this dried it was so satisfying to take this ugly off and install the beauty!
Speaking of beauty! This Schlage hardware is so gorgeous, don’t you think that this matte black finish to die for? It’s my favourite! I just love how vintagey it looks while at the same time looks modern! I decided to go with the, Georgian Knob with Addison trim & the Single Cylinder Deadbolt with Addison trim, it feels so smooth and soft to the touch and it works effortlessly, huge bonus points!
Ease Of Install
I really wanted to show you all how simple it is to install this beautiful hardware… so I shot a quick (very professional <— sarcasm) video for you.
The whole install process took me a max 10 min, even with all my chit chatting and mad video skills. 😉 It was so easy, I was a little suspicious. haha So easy, absolutely anyone can do it!!!
Come on over to my Instragram for more fun behind the scenes install stuff all saved in my highlights.
The Cherry On Top – Beautiful Matte Black – Schlage
I mean what is there not to love!? I adore the rectangular back plate and the edging details, it’s just so pretty! This Georgian Knob with Addison trim along with the Single Cylinder Deadbolt with Addison trim finishes this room off perfectly and I’m so excited about the fact that the pantry is not only pretty, it’s uber functional.
Is it strange to love a door handle so much? 😉
I want to give a huge thank you to Schlage for partnering with me on this pantry door update! We LOVE the fact that our pantry is completely done and this, “cherry on top” made the whole reno come together just beautifully. I would also like to thank all of you for supporting us and our sponsors! Much love! xoxo
**Please note that Schlage has provided us with this product we love, all of our thoughts and feelings are our very own. We are #teamschlage all the way!**
