No No Drama
I’m a start some drama
You don’t want no drama
No no drama no no no no drama..
So, some of you are cool enough to know what song those lyrics are from and well some of you are like me… going down the rabbit hole looking for the song called, “No Drama”! Oh goodness, this is a real life snippet into how my brain works (or doesn’t) – I rename things constantly – OR I miss-name them, I prefer the creative and more positive route, rename… so many awkward stories – but we don’t have the time for ALL the stories in this little post, thankfully. For the record though (if you are like me at all), the lyrics are from “My Humps” – by The Black Eyed Peas – NOT, No Drama. Yep, I totally feel much cooler now! hahaha
Back to the “drama” I’ve added to our home! Confession… that title, ya well there isn’t actual D R A M A here, it’s just us two, puttering around our property and home making stuff – staying outta trouble – AKA boring! 😉 and we love it that way, wouldn’t change a thing, besides, life has way too much drama as is – soooo, we really work hard to hold the D word at an arm’s length… unless it’s a gorgeous rich colour that makes me extremely and dramatically happy! (See what I did there?)
The story
I’ll start at the beginning… these windows – swoon right?! I bought these leaded glass windows, oh about 2 or 3 years ago. I’ve been moving them into different places in our home ever since then… I’ve even hung them on the walls a few times.
I mean it’s such a pretty window and frankly would look good anywhere, right?! But… my wall space is minimal in this house and the twin to this window was tucked away collecting dust and basically being ignored. That’s sad! So I built a cabinet – I used this plan as a guide, but customized it as per the size of the windows. Here she is, I just finished painting the white on the interior and trying to decide on the exterior colour!
Before
When I first saw the windows, I knew I wanted to build a cabinet for them and paint my cabinet something like my inspiration below…
I also knew I wanted to work with my favourite paint *FUSION™ MINERAL PAINT for this project and they were gracious enough to send me some awesome colours to try. Once they arrived though, I couldn’t decide! YIKES!
Enter Instagram
Enter YOU guys really! I was heavily leaning towards little lamb (beautiful, but safe).
Then I saw Homestead blue – OH MY GOODNESS.
But I’ve painted some awesome stuff with Ash too… (you can see those projects – here and here)
You can see my dilemma, right? And then there is my love of navy… enter midnight blue! Cue the dramatic music…
*If you’d like to follow along with the, Bud and Laurie “show” some behind the scenes shenanigans you can totally follow all the silly right here on Instagram. AND I’m hosting a paint give away on the GRAM with my friends at Fusion… head over to enter!
Drama Is Cozy
I honestly thought I knew the end to this story, I was pretty confident – Little Lamb would be the winner. Or maybe Homestead Blue, but like I said above you guys voted for Midnight blue, by one vote! I seriously thought about having another vote (shame)! The cabinet is such a big piece, I just wasn’t sure… would it be too dark for our already dark living room? The answer is a great big NO, I am so grateful that you guys kicked me out of my comfort zone and I added this gorgeous and cozy drama to our home!
She’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of my solo build! #perfectlyImperfect
She adds just the right amount of cozy drama to our home – it’s so funny how things work out because this navy is one of our fall colours this season, I can’t wait to go thrifting to find my other colours choices!! I can’t wait to show you our home all ready for Fall!
I just adore these brass handles, when I laid the windows together to get my opening measurement for the cabinet I noticed that the handles were at different heights… I left them as is! Changing the height of one to match the other would have meant making another large hole behind the key turns, there is a funny little bump on the back of each one, I kind of like this uneven quirk.
My favourite thing about this cabinet though… all the special vignettes inside, they are mostly from this summer’s memories – our trip back home to the East Coast of Canada, collecting sea glass with special little folks and treasured family photos, all visible at a glance.
All of the warm vintage wood contrasts perfectly against this beautiful colour – I’m all heart eyes over here! It’s the perfect cozy touch as we enter into the Fall season, YAY – you guys ROCK!

I love that piece so much- it came together like it was always meant to be! And thank you for putting that song in my head now- as I am plenty old enough for it to be hanging around the cobwebbed portions of my memory.
Oh my, Laurie! It is so beautiful…and you have styled it wonderfully!
Wow Laurie – it’s absolutely stunning! What a great use of your windows.
I LOVE IT!! Can’t believe you built it! I have a cabinet I found for cheap and have Midnight Blue waiting to get painted on. Just need to finish the other two projects I started!
So beautiful! Can’t believe it started out as two windows!
Laurie- you are one talented lady! I love that you asked your IG friends to vote on a color. It turned out great. And I love those blue jay feathers with the wood pieces. You always have such interesting vignettes!
Those doors though! I absolutely love that you put them to use and built the cabinet. It turned out absolutely gorgeous! The color is great for that space and the white interior really makes everything pop, so pretty, Laurie. Any time I need a laugh though I really should hop on your blog. You crack me and I’m happy to say I’m in the cool club because I knew exactly where you were going with all that no drama. 😉
You had me laughing all the way through this post. Seriously. I needed it. Ha! Ha! You and no drama. So funny. I was also laughing when you said you guys putter around the house and make stuff, AKA boring and that is so much like Luke and I. We’re boring too. Okay, then I saw the doors. Swoon. Then I saw the cabinet you built. Swoon. Then I saw the color. Double Swoon. I’m really thinking I need to do our bathroom vanity in midnight blue, but worry because the floor tiles are tan and yellow and I don’t want that to stand out. This is amazing. Your gorgeous cabinets and your gorgeous vignettes. LOVE xx
I CANNOT believe you built this to suit your leaded glass windows! Girrrrl! It is so stunning and the paint choice is perfection in your space! I would call that DRAMA! 😉 And each little vignette is so engaging. Someone should be paying you heaps of money to style their flagship home store in New York or something. But then you would have to leave that cozy porch of yours. xo Jo
That’s my kinda drama! You are oh so talented and amazing and funny. It’s really not fair (stomping foot). There. There’s a dramatic temper tantrum for ya 🙂
You know how much I love this cabinet but I figured I would tell ya again just so you knew 🙂
Hugs,
Karin
