See more of that feather garland here
Wow, is it Thursday already?! Have you been drooling over all of the Canadian blogger’s home tours so far this week? I know I sure have been, truly inspiring and unique spaces. If you’re not quite sure what I’m talking about you can catch up at the end of my fall home tour where I’ve posted a complete list of talented friends with direct links to the who’s who in this collaborative coast to coast fall extravaganza! There are 20 of us in all and we are being hosted by the ever generous and adorable, Christina from The DIY Mommy . I’d like to say a great big thank you to her for putting such a fun group together!
Mr (aka Bud) and I would like to say hello and welcome to our version of the Canadian fall home tour… we’ll be getting a little bit rustic and vintage on this tour, I hope you enjoy our space. We live in a rural community just outside of Kingston Ontario and we absolutely love it here. It’s like living in beautiful cottage country with gorgeous countryside everywhere, lots of wild life and and endless lakes for us to explore within minutes from our home. One of our favourite past times though is to sit on our front porch and watch the “show” that nature puts on for us, from spectacular sunrises and sunsets to very impressive thunder and lighting storms, we are all nestled in and completely protected from the elements… protected from everything except miskitos maybe. haha
Thank you so very much for joining us here, if you’ve been following me on Instagram you’ve already spied some of our sneak peeks, we’re so happy to finally reveal the whole tour to you, enjoy.
The evolution of our front porch
Our porch was a completely intimidating space to me when we first moved here… we moved from a much smaller front landing with an urn and 2 Adirondacks… to this much larger area.
I’m happy to say that I am becoming quite comfortable with this extra outdoor room we find ourselves with… the perfect location for gathering with friends and family and it’s the absolute best place in the world for Mr and I to chat, laugh and enjoy our quiet surroundings.
Summer 2016 porch tour was filled with special memories and my “slight” obsession with peonies, you can see more of that tour here.
Fall 2015 was filled with a cameo from Kiefer our black cutie, hay bales and of course some rusty goodness, you can see more of that here.
I’ve really gotten into fixing up our rustic porch, while there is so much we’d still like to do to renovate our porch we are quite happy with the here and the now, for now… haha, who knows maybe 2017 will be the year for a porch reno?! Oh the plans and the projects just don’t stop around here… we are DIYers to the core!
Canadian bloggers fall home tour – 2016 our rustic porch
This year I decided to tap into my love of rustic (surprise) with splashes of vintage and some industrial thrown in for good measure and of course cozy, we can’t forget cozy. I wanted to create some welcoming and cozy spaces with seating areas for our family to enjoy.
Sitting a spell and having a warm cup a joe… reading a favourite book is my idea of bliss.
A layered cozy look is perfect for our front porch not to mention very comfortable. I was so happy to be able to use this pom-pom throw I made… it’s SO soft! Find out how I made that here. Adding some gorgeous throw pillows that contrast each other (my favourite design principle) finishes off this space perfectly I think.
This rocking chair belonged to my Nanny, I’m thinking of giving her a little freshen up with some white maybe? We’ll see, for now this rocking chair takes it’s rightful place on the porch.
I decided that our antique bench needed a little “coffee table”, this crate is one of my favourite scores… it makes a perfect tray don’t you think? Maybe one day I will add the leather DIY handles I’ve been thinking about. AND I just could not have a Canadian Fall Home tour without maple leaf cookies! 🙂 So yummy!
Besides the lighting over the mantel this vintage wooden sifter (made into a wreath with antlers) is my favourite addition this fall, I’m a little nutso over it! LOVE!
Do you enjoy vintage finds too? I can’t help myself, I see something I love I have to snag it. Even though I didn’t know right away what I was going to do with this sifter I bought it and I’m so happy I did. If you’d like to follow some of my thrifting and treasure hunting shenanigans on Facebook I would love it if you joined me. 🙂
Speaking of the mantel, this beauty was a huge score when Mr and I went on a picking vacation, OMGoodness now THAT was fun!
Rustic vignettes
Oh my that blue! xoxo
Something so right about white pumpkins!
The last of my blushing bride hydrangeas, I adore how they are all different!
Just after a nice bit of rain… bliss!
Thank you once again for joining us here for our version of fall, 2016. xo

Laurie,
The porch looks fantastic, I’ll join you anytime on your treasure hunts 🙂
Thank you Tracy! I love treasure hunting, a bit too much some might say! 😉
Your porch is gorgeous!!! So much of a difference from when you first moved in! PS – don’t leave your deer pillow on the porch at night or some blogger from Ohio might have to sneak over the border and “borrow” it 🙂
Your comment made me LOL for real! Thank you for stopping in, I’m so glad you like our porch! It’s a cozy space, we love it!
Everything is perfect Laurie! Perfect, perfect, perfect! So cozy and full of special touches. (And the cookies work!) If I were close by I’d be popping over to see it in person! Your house is just lovely. It always has me wanting to find a country property! One day perhaps. 🙂 xo Jo
Awwww, thank you sweet friend of mine! Any time you’re in town, let me know, I’d love to have you over! 🙂
Oh my gosh, sweet friend! It’s been a while since I visited you and you not only have the most awesome decorated porch for fall but your blog has a new look. I can just imagine you and Bud on that porch looking out at that incredible view. How clever to put a mantel on your porch to anchor some seating! And you sifter wreath is just genius! I was looking at your rocker and thinking that it would look fantastic with some white paint but also leaving some of the stained wood tones on it. Would be fun to try before going all white!
I like your rocker idea… I may do that. Thank you so much for stopping in, I have changed a few things around here, I want to do a big new look reveal but I haven’t had a chance to yet! 🙂
This looks beautiful, and perfectly “you.” That blue glass is totally beautiful, I love it!
That porch is where we’ll have coffee next time I’m in town 😉
For sure coffee on the porch, if I’m available! :p hahahaha thank you for your kind words! xo
This all looks so lovely. That mantle was a score! I dream of taking a picking vacation one day. With a view like yours, I’d be on the porch all the time.
The porch is our favourite place, if the internet worked out there I don’t thing I’d ever come in. 🙂
Beautiful job Laurie! I love your property too!
Thank you so much Anne! xo
How absolutely wonderful! Who wouldn’t want to spend time on your porch with all the lovely touches of happiness. Thank you for posting your view from the porch also, I can smell the fresh air! Love the white pumpkins and hydrangeas, and well, …everything!
Thank you Collette, that view is such a big part of the porch, I had to post it! 🙂 Thank you so much for your lovely comments! xo
Laurie! This looks so good! So cozy with those blankets and pillows! I love the branch with the lights attached! Genius!
Thanks Becki! 😀 I love the birch log/branch with the lights too… my fave! I’m a bit of a lighting geek, I adore cool lighting! It is SO cozy out there, with this cooler weather now it’s so refreshing to sit out there with the cool air and be as toasty as a bug in a run! xo
Girl. You know how to layer in the coziness! I want to spend all day on that porch with a new book… and endless coffee. So gorgeous, and so you. I knew you’d knock it out of the park!
Awww, thank you sweet friend, what a lovely comment! I do do cozy very well… I’m always so chilly, I need my throws and my pillows! You can’t have too many, right?! 😉
Laurie, your front porch and yard are dreamy! I think you have the perfect setting to put together those beautiful vintage vignettes. I’m not quite there yet, but hopefully soon. Until then, I’ll work on the collecting part!
Oh my Shauna, I disagree your gorgeous red bench with your vintage touches were pure perfection! But by all means keep collecting, maybe one day we will get to go picking together, that would be so fun!
