Welcome back my darling friends! I hope you are ALL well and staying safe! I’m very happy to be joining my Creative Vintage Darling friends today, doing something that makes us all so happy at this surreal time in the world. The Creative Vintage Darlings team is brining you another wonderful episode of, “Thrift the Look”. This time we are playing around with garden inspired decor, yay!
Thrift The Look
If this is your first time here, you may be wondering what is, “Thrift the Look”? The concept is simple really, find an image of decor that inspires you and recreate it with thrifted or up-cycled items.
Here’s a peek at my past, “Thrift the look” posts: Thrift the look – Vintage Lakehouse decor, Thrift the look – Boho
Usually what happens is we’d select an image we love and go out thrifting, 100% my favourite thing to do. So, obviously at this point and time in our world, when ALL of us are #stayinghome, going out to thrift is out of the question! SO… I decided to thrift my home and make do! I mean, everything in my stash and in my home is basically thrifted, rescued or re-homed anyways! I told myself, keep it simple… if you know me at all, this goes against my very fibre. I LOVE to complicate and over think all of the things… this little thrift the look exercise was a bit of “therapy” for me. I’m considering this episode of, “thrift the look” a group therapy session with my CVD buds!

Garden – Inspired Decor
This sweet little vignette is from Sarah Joy – the blog. I thought this was a very cute spring vignette and completely fit in with the theme of garden decor! I also knew I had a step ladder that I would work perfectly in building this vignette.
Thrifting my home
These are some of the things I gathered from around the house.
I stole this ladder from my husband’s bed side and he may not be getting it back again. I found this patinated beauty around 8 years ago and Bud has been using it as his bedside table ever since.
I didn’t have a black and white tin for a plant like in the inspirational image, but I did have this one on the front porch, I really like it. Yonk… *yonk is the sound of stealing.
I had a few of these flower pots and this fake plant is almost identical to the one in the inspo image (only smaller)… but when I had all the fake plants on my ladder, it didn’t feel right. I just ended up using the pots with a real tiny fern instead.
I found this carved wooden bowl at a yard sale this past summer (those were the days) for $5, after a good cleaning and a wax I thought it would be a good substitute for the top shelf plant (that plant is a faker – such a wanna be).
Had to steal some books from this vignette… shhh, don’t tell.
My Garden inspired look
While my, thrift the look is not exactly the same as my inspiration image, it is very much me… I love that we use our inspiration images as a guide, sometimes to get as close as possible to the original… but for me it’s like a recipe that we adapt to suit our individual tastes. I love that each of our creativity comes out to play and create, it’s my favourite!
We aren’t having any real blooms here in Ontario… so little fakers it is, these flowers are cute just the same and remind me of gardens and spring.
I can see this little corner continuing to grow with added plants and vintage goodies, once we’re out and about again.
Thank you for joining us here today, I hope you’ll be inspired to thrift the look within your own homes too!

This is so great Laurie! I know what you mean about overcomplicating and overthinking things! That’s me too! You’ve done such a great job with this challenge, I love your little ladder vignette!
Tania
Thanks so much Tania, I worked hard at simplifying… haha I’m glad you get me! <3
This is so lovely, Laurie! You totally captured the look and it’s perfect in your home! The tin and books are wonderful! Loved this challenge!
Thank you Linda, it was such a fun challenge and a fantastic distraction too.
“*yonk is the sound of stealing” 😂😂😂
I love everything about this. It looks effortless though I know you and I know you put bunches of effort into putting this together – still it’s a great example of using what you have to recreate a look. It is absolutely stunning!
OMG right?? SO using Yonk from now on.
This is beautiful, Laurie. You really nailed it! I love, LOVED this inspo. pic, and I’m so glad you recreated it. Your little wooden bowl is a “yonk” for me. It’s a sweet piece, and I am totally crushing over your tin. Great job on your TTL!
The shabby paint job on that ladder is perfection, Laurie, and the perfect coloration, too! Always love how you style; vintage junk beautiful, indeed!
Your version of your inspo picture is so very pretty! You must keep Bud’s ladder in this spot as it is too pretty to move. I so much enjoyed admiring each of your pictures. Vintage styling perfection!!
Love this sweet little vignette, Laurie. The ladder is perfect for garden decor. And your ferns and wood bowl complete the look so nicely. Can’t wait to be able to go out foraging for treasures again. Soon, my friend, very soon! Stay safe!
YONK! That is just too much- I love it! But not as much as I love your TTL! And how cool that Bud uses the step ladder as his bedside table- so smart!! Great job, as always. XOXO
