Welcome friends to our, Simple Fall Porch. I’m so excited to be joining in again with my lovely friends for the Fall Ideas Tour. I’d like to give a big old thank you to my friend, Angie at Postcards from the Ridge, she is so very gracious and awesome to host this wonderful tour, thanks lady! Make sure you stick around until the end of this post and make sure you visit with all of my talented friends! xo
Here’s a sneak peek of the awesome you can expect.
Simple Fall Porch – Fall Ideas
Well, first let’s talk about the elephant in the room before we get this tour started. Yikes, it’s been a crazy 2020 so far, am I right? Social distancing, losing of jobs, staying home and only going out when it’s essential, since March! Some families have had it so much worse too, it’s been intense friends! 🙁 When I signed up for this tour I wanted a break from the cray in the world and I wanted to concentrate on simplified, on nature and I 100% didn’t want to spend any money on this porch tour! So while that is mostly true… I did buy 2 vintage oil lantern bases for $8 each, other than that, zero dollars spent. Usually though I’d rush to the stores and fill the back of our car with all of the fall mums, the pumpkins, hay bales, new rugs, new pillows and props! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE heading to the stores and getting new inspiring things to play with. But that’s not what I’m doing this time around. I want to just inspire with what we have, reimagine what we have and shop our home. There are plans for this porch, but for right now we are living in the moment and enjoying this beautiful porch for what it does give us, now! We truly do love it here.
Simplifying life is our goal really… we’ve been on this journey of simplifying our lives and slowing this proverbial train down for a while now. To be able to take in all of the everyday special moments, to notice the simple moments and to reflect in gratitude… this really and truly takes focus and work.
Sitting on the porch and taking it all in, just being! We are so grateful for where we are.
I think my new favourite thing is finding vintage oil lantern bases and using them as vases, they are so darn charming. I’ve shared how I’ve used them on Instagram, I would love it if you joined me there.
Of course my amber bottles have to come out, it’s fall after all! In all honesty though, I’ve never put them away… I mean, how could I, they are just too awesome!
There are always tons of nests we find on the ground after all the baby birds have flown the coop and every bird has moved out… I think the wind blows them out of the trees and I can’t resist a nest on the ground, that texture is amazing.
Our little bistro set was in front of the mantel… we ate there almost every night during the summer and it was awesome. But, I think it’s now time to sit in our cozy Adirondack chairs for our cooler morning coffees. It is nice to be feeling the cooler air, it’s been very refreshing after the very hot summer we’ve had.
Our potting bench is really simplified this year, I love it. That green still speaks to me! You can see how I made this potting bench at; Vintage Potting Bench – DIY – Outdoor Extravaganza. You can also see how I styled the potting bench last year for the Fall Ideas Tour here —> Simple Rustic Autumn Porch.
With this view you can see a peek of where we moved our fire-pit area. We love it in it’s new location, it’s much cozier here. I also simply love how charming the vintage aluminum funnel looks with beautiful plants.
I foraged on our property to bring in some greenery and late summer hydrangeas.
We simply love how the light moves all around our property, a beautiful show when the weather cooperates. That wreath is years old, I simply foraged in my craft storage and added some bright green moss, it really freshened it up so much!
I love having throws on our chairs for those crisp mornings and evenings.
Our bistro set is still an amazing place to eat dinner – this is the perfect spot to watch the sunset.
Balls of twine add such a wonderful texture, it’s one of my favourite texture hacks! 😉
Our oak tree is being “trimmed” by the busy squirrels (getting ready for winter)… we find full branches on the ground all of the time, it’s a very efficient way for them to get to the yummy acorns once the branch falls to the ground. And, it’s handy to fill amber bottles with water to add the trimmed branches to them, I love this fresh look. Thank you Mr or Mrs Squirrel! xo
I also love collecting all of the wasps nests… once they move out of course. 😉 The masterful way they create their homes is mind-blowing, every section is perfect!
Thank you so much for joining us here on the porch, I hope you’ve enjoyed your virtual visit?! xoxo

A fall display, what display? I just kept noticing a handsome man! I knew I would like your vignette and of course you made it look even better by including tall dark and handsome in the display.
bahahahaha, this made me laugh so much! Bud said, “I fit on the porch, I’m vintage too! Although somethings work like new!” 😉 Like his eyes, he has great night vision! HAHA
Laurie, I always love seeing what you do with your porch. Yes, I have seen your amazing lamps on Instagram. You have a great eye for gorgeous vintage and nature texture that never fails. Love the green potting bench and all the fresh greenery too. Great job. I wish I lived closer to you so that I could stop by and have a cup of tea (not a coffee drinker) with you. Socially distanced of course. 🙂
Thank you so much Patti! xo You are so incredibly kind, I wish you lived closer too, the creative ways we could have fun would be endless!
These words so speak to me: “Simplifying life is our goal really… we’ve been on this journey of simplifying our lives and slowing this proverbial train down for a while now. To be able to take in all of the everyday special moments, to notice the simple moments and to reflect in gratitude… this really and truly takes focus and work.”
My husband and I are doing this exact thing during the pandemic.
Being married to a veteran necessitated us slowing things down, but we’ve truly discovered that this simple life we strive to create is really the magic recipe for us. I hope your simplifying journey is going well? xo
You have so many beautiful pieces and I love the way you styled them! Your porch is lovely and seems like the perfect place to sit and relax! So inspiring!
Shelley
Thank you so much Shelley, it truly is the best place to sit and chill! xo
Laurie, you have a wonderful spot to sit and enjoy the outdoors. I love the adirondack chairs in front of the mantel. That would be my first pick to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee each morning! Love your vintage treasures too and how they are thoughtfully arranged.
Thank you so much, Michelle! It truly is the best place to sit, I love taking my coffee there and watching the sun burn off the moisture in our pond. Listening to all the critters wake for the day, it’s pure peace!
What a great porch!!! Love how you decked it out for fall!
Thank you Maryann! xo
Your porch and home are beautiful. We truly appreciate decorating with what you already have. We never thought of decorating with vintage oil lamp bases. Genius idea! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much Vicki and Jenn! xo I was coming across so many lamp bases in thrift stores, and it hit me one day, use them as a vase. Now of course they are much more rare, now that I have a use for them. 😉
Your porch is so charming! And your beautiful photography always inspires me.
Thank you so much Susan, what a lovely thing to say! xo
I enjoy seeing your porch decor in any season. You’ve decorated it wonderfully for fall. After seeing your lamp bases used as a flower holder (I also saw on IG!), I am going to search my basement for a lamp base and copy your idea. I hope that you and Bud have many wonderful fall days on this porch and fall evenings around your fire pit.
Thank you so much my friend! I’m glad you were inspired to use your bases too, can’t wait to see how you style with them. Using mine are one of my favourite ways to play! xo
Your porch is just lovely! I love the way you used things you already had. Like you said, it’s definitely been a crazy year! Great job!
Thank you so much Marty! 🙂
Laurie,
Your porch looks so relaxing and dreamy. I love every last detail of it! The mantel, potting bench, lantern vases, all of it. It all so cozy and inviting, like an outdoor living room. And I love that you used mostly things that you already had from your amazing stash! So happy to have you on the tour!!
Thanks Angie! xo I’m so happy to be on the tour! <3
What a comfortable porch! You have so many vintage goodies which makes it feel so welcoming! I’d love to curl up in one of those chairs with my morning coffee!
Thanks Cindy, it is the best place to cozy up and have that morning coffee! xo
How perfect, Laurie! So, so pretty and you did an awesome job of creating a fall porch without bringing in the mums and pumpkins. Looks like the perfect spot for morning coffee!
Thank you so much Suzy, it truly is the best spot to have our morning coffee.
Laurie your porch is so inviting! I feel like I could sit down and enjoy a glass of tea and really unwind. I love your message you give too with these uncertain times. You did an amazing job with what you already had. Beautiful!
Thank you so much Wendy, this little porch is our haven, perfect place to sit during these times!
With your inviting porch decorating, Fall couldn’t be any better! From the vintage pieces to the cozy blankets, I wouldn’t ever want to leave.
Thanks Meegan, it is a very hard spot to leave for sure! 😉 xo
Your porch is amazing, Laurie! It’s nice to get to know you & Bud! We are Julie & Rick ;). We have been home since March 11. Our daughter is high risk, so we have left the house maybe 6 times. It’s a whole new life, but I’m just thankful we can all work from home-even the kiddos. Thank you for the reminder to keep “simplifying”. I’m 51 and just getting THAT now!! XO
Hi Julie and Rick, pleasure is all mine! xo It’s so wonderful that you can work from home, what a gift that is! I’m 53 and still learning that message too, simple can be so darn complicated sometimes! Ugh! hahaha xoxo
I can’t wait until it gets cool enough here to need a throw! I love every detail of your fall porch and I always look forward to seeing how you’ve decorated it each season. Love how you used the oil lamp bases as vases!
Hi Jane! xo Thanks so much for your visit to our porch and your kind words! <3
Every single time I see pics of your porch I want to come visit. I love the way you always include a little unexpected and fun 🙂
Laurie, I don’t think I would ever leave with a porch and view like that. It totally looks like it’s straight out of Country Living! Thank you for the inspiration!
