Maybe it’s just me but I think Autumn is the most wonderful time of the year! It’s my absolute favourite! It feels like a renewal of sorts, time for bulb planting, big blanket scarves and evening fires when we’re ready for our evening relaxation. Time for our wonderfully flavoured candles and our yummy hot comfort-drinks too! It’s also my favourite time to get the porch Fall ready, I love layering in all the cozy blankets, adding rich coloured flowers, candles and of course dried hydrangeas – so much texture and depth to play with at this time of year! Have I mentioned yet, it’s my favourite? 😉
Fall Ideas Tour
I’m pretty excited to be joining in with 29 very talented Bloggers this season on this amazing Fall Ideas Tour! This tour is hosted by my sweet and talented friend, Angie over at Postcards from the Ridge, this is one of my favourite tours in all of the land (aka interwebz)! This tour has been going on all week long, it started on Monday with Mantels. Tuesday, we were inspired with lovely Tablescapes. Wednesday, we saw beautiful Fall Wreathes. Thursday, was full of clever Crafts /DIYs and today, Friday, it’s Porches! Whoop Whoop! And, today I will be sharing our Simple Rustic Autumn Porch with you.
Simple Rustic Autumn Porch
Welcome to our porch. We’ve been in this home 6 years now and our porch is totally our happy place. Perfect for early morning coffee(s), large family gatherings or just simply a place to be and take in our property, a safe place to watch a thunderstorm or two! We do have some exciting plans in the works for this space in the near future (fingers crossed Spring), but for now we embrace our porch in all of it’s rustic glory! 😉 I hope you’ll enjoy this tour and don’t forget to pop on down to the end of this post and show my blogging buddies some love too!
Follow this hashtag on Instagram, #FallIdeasTour for oodles more fall inspiration!
We’re still loving the potting bench we built… I used my Nan’s table as the base, I think she would approve! The rustic design and the colours of this bench seem to work for any season.
Why have a bistro table sitting in front of a mantel, why not? It’s the prefect back drop and a handy dandy ledge! This happens to be the perfect spot for morning coffees and sunset dinners.
The little piece of architectural salvage tucked up nicely in the corner, was a very generous gift from my lovely sister in-law. <3 I’m loving it there!
Our Dodi loves to be where I am at all times. She’s on “leash rest”, she somehow sprained her wrist!? So, she is sticking extra close these days – well she has to – hahaha. She’ll be 3 in October and she fills all the corners of my heart! I’m a HUGE SAP, haha we both are actually! 😉
One of the views as seen while sitting at the bistro. Just out of this shot is our camper project (Pitou), life has made things a little tricker lately to fit that project in, but we’ll get there! In the mean time we are enjoying the down time on the porch.
Cozy setting for enjoying the cooler temperatures of fall.
Adding texture
I’m loving how these new to me hydrangea, we planted them this summer they add the perfect texture to the vignettes this season (bobo hydrangea). I’ve hung them on our vintage potting bench as they dry fully – they are so mini and delicate, don’t you think?!
Even though there is a lot of texture, it being a rustic porch and all … I adore the extra depth the hydrangea add, they are so lovely in this copper planter.
Textured moss with feathers in this simple wreath are also a nice way to add in all the fall vibes – I love adding copper in the fall too.
The firewood textures are wonderful and practical, we store all of our winter wood on the porch (not fully stocked yet), it just makes it much easier to bring in when it’s freezing outside. Let’s not think about the W word just yet though…
Balls of twine are one of my favourite ways to add texture to all the vignettes! Again it’s also practical, I use twine in almost all of my vignetting. It’s handy to have it so close.
More twine, in an antique twine holder, I’m a bit smitten and am currently hunting for more!
Adding colour
I am madly in love with the colours of nature and really that was my only inspiration for our porch this year. I mean, nature does it best, wouldn’t you say?
Sigh, I mean nature you rule(r) – no pun intended! This is the perfect combo of greens & pinks.
Kind of why I didn’t mess with the potting bench really, the colour totally worked for this fall season. Some pops of rich mustard colour really add to the autumn vibes too.
Copper and amber with some teal hits, I think Fall has arrived on the porch nicely!
I built this vintage ruler succulent holder and decided to reuse it – this time I added vintage bottles. I’m drying some hydrangeas and maybe later I will use it to propagate some plants! Honestly though, I’m not sure how the weather will hold out, I may have to bring this cutie inside!
Ah the rich deep colour of red… it’s such a strong colour, I decided to use it sparingly and I must say I love how it pops!
Fall Flowers
This bad boy is kind of what started it all… red, gold (mustard), green… it’s a fake, but that didn’t matter to me, one less thing to water. 😉
Ferns are a go to this time of year, texture, green and just so fun! They don’t cost a fortune and are a great space filler. Is anyone wondering where all the pumpkins are? haha, speaking of small fortunes, my goodness is it me or are pumpkins going up like the price of gas? I didn’t want this fall porch to cost an arm and a leg, so I bought fun fall arrangements from Giant Tiger and I am completely happy with how they added just the right touches. #notanad
I did get some mums too… just not a lot of photos of them. I think I got a bit distracted by my girl posing by them! 😉 Maybe I’ll do an Instagram story, so you can actually see the mums, but honestly, I may get distracted by my girl, again! <3
Drying nicely!
Giant Tiger for the win! I love this type of grass, it has such a cool sound when there is a breeze, not to mention I love the colours too!
Yep, Giant Tiger again! These arrangements are so good and economical!
Oh look, there are some mums! 😉
Fall Vignettes
Vignettes are kind of my thing… I LOVE creating little peeks of things I’m collecting in my decor.
I did end up getting a few pumpkins… mini whites are just too cute to pass up!
Do you see the mushrooms in the grass? Funny story, I was in the garden and saw these sitting all pretty like! I immediately ran in the house and told Bud, YOU HAVE TO COME SEE what’s growing in the garden!!!!! He totally got me, I thought they were real!!! We had a very good laugh, I felt so silly after I realized they are ceramic and not actually real! The colours are perfect and what a sweet surprise he tricked me with. <3
Kingston is simply beautiful this time of year, we love living here.
I can’t wait to plant these lupine, I hope they grow… when we were on vacation last year they grow wild in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, I fell in love with this flower, fingers crossed!

This is beautiful you did an amazing job creating the perfect fall porch.
Thanks Jen! Looking forward to seeing your tablescape!
I want to sit with you, Bud, and Dodie on your beautiful porch, Laurie! What a great spot you have to relax while admiring your gorgeous property. I love all of your porch decor and now I’ve put a vintage twine holder on my “I need” list. Every detail is perfection!
Oh I would love that, don’t forget to bring the boys though, I think Sherman would really enjoy the porch too! xo
I can’t wait to see our porch each season! Love, love, love that potting bench still. I think it’s a keeper. And love your fake mushrooms! Too cute!
Awwww, thanks Pam! That potting bench really is my fave too, I just adore the colours! <3
Laurie, you have so a great knack for gathering textures. Beautiful vintage pieces (I want one of the twine holders) with fresh and great color combos. Of course, Dodi is so gorgeous she kind of makes the whole scene.
Thanks Patti! I agree, Dodi does make the whole scene! xo
Your porch is so beautiful!!
Thank you SO much Lindsay! xo
Oh how I love your porch….and your whole property actually. I could linger and enjoy all the special pieces all day. I don’t believe I could pick a favorite although as I sit here a minute, the green cabinet and that glorious wood ceiling keep coming to my mind. Oh…and so do those fabulous dried hydrangeas. OK…I have to stop. Love it all. Happy Fall… XO
Ha ha, thank you Susie, you are so sweet! Happy Fall right back at ya! xo
What a fantastic porch. I spied that red and white crate too! Hope Dodi heals up fast and I’m looking forward to your updates on your camper.
Heyyyyy you! <3 that crate you spied has our last name on it, I couldn't resist it! 😉 I hope she heals fast too, she's not really one to be on leash rest... although it's really keeping the barking down! Hoping to start back at the camper on Monday... slow and steady wins the race they say!
This Canadian prairie girl is right with you re Giant Tiger! Your porch is so welcoming and I just love all the vintage touches. I’d live out there from May – September if it were mine. Gorgeous!
Thanks Marie, we kind of do live out there in those months, we even push it a bit, with ski pants and blankets it’s down right cozy! Okay, that’s a lie, but it’s nice for a moment or two! 😉 Isn’t GT great, so economical.
I want to come over and sip some spicy tea on your porch with you, Laurie! You’ve created the most lovely, cozy space, layering all those wonderful vintage finds with beautiful organic texture. I’d want to just sit there all day! So excited to be hopping with you, friend!
Hi Lora, come on over, we can chat about all the vintage things, maybe go picking! Wouldn’t that be SO fun!!!!? Thanks for your sweet words my friend, ditto! xoxox
I’m so sorry to hear that Dodi isn’t feeling her best! I’m finding it hard to believe that you’ve had her for 3 years and that you’ve lived in this home for 6! Where, oh where, is time going? I’m always inspired by visiting your porch. We are going to make some repairs to ours soon and I was wondering what changes you were going to make to yours. I must look for that hydrangea because its colors are gorgeous. And maybe I should grow some pumpkins again next year if they are getting so expensive!!!
Thank you Jane! Dodi is feeling better, the leash rest seems to be really helping her limp. Fingers crossed she heals what ever it is that’s injured. I know, time is flying on by, it has a way of speeding at times! We are paining and installing all new railings, if you have a peek in my pinterest under porch, you can get an idea of what we’ll be doing. The covered porch is amazing, we LOVE it, but it’s so dark in the house, we need to lighten it up a bit. The pumpkins around here, the ones I wanted were 12.99 each – I wanted at least 7… that’s bananas! So mini pumpkins it is! YOU totally have to get that hydrangea, so easy!!! And pretty! Thanks for the awesome chat my friend! xo
I completely agree with you Laurie…Fall is my favorite time of the year too! And your porch! It absolutely declares that all are welcome to come and sit a spell. You’ve done a wonderful job with all your vignettes…I can see that it really is ‘your thing’.
Thanks for welcoming us to your porch and thanks for the inspiration.
So happy to join you on this fantastic blog tour!
Hugs, Lynn
Thank YOU so much Lynn, I truly hope people feel welcomed and cozy when they come for visits, that’s our goal and it’s how we kind of do everything. xo
Laurie! Your porch is beautiful, it feels like “home”. You have the magic touch and the most beautiful way with words xo
Awww, thank you so much my friend! xoxoxox
Absolutely beautiful Laurie! I love all the rustic touches and chippy goodness! I could totally see myself rocking with a cup of coffee and enjoying every single element!
Thanks so much Christina, we’re enjoying dinners out there every evening and a coffee or two in the mornings. xo
Your entire porch is a dreamy space. There’s so much good stuff to take in, I had to scroll back and forth a few times. I could just stare at your treasures for hours. Cute pup, too! Happy Fall!
Thanks so much Kim! xo
Admire all the detail on your stunning porch! I, also, love vignettes! Your home looks so inviting. Love the pics of Dodie!!! Happy Fall!

Can I come for a visit and just sit on your dreamy porch? I love everything about it…the colors, the vintage items, the flowers, the view, and of course Dodi! You always style it so perfectly.
