Welcome back my lovely friends, I’m pretty excited to be joining in with some of my Creative Vintage Darling buds (aka my #thriftingenablers) for another round of, Thrift the Look. This time around we are playing with boho inspired decor!
Thrift The Look
Thrift the Look, is the brainchild of my lovely friend, Sarah. She blogs over at Sadie Seasongoods and her very first, “Thrift the Look” was, French Farmhouse Decor from the Thrift Store. We LOVED this idea so much, we couldn’t wait to join her on a thrifting adventure (or 12). The concept is pretty self explanatory, we choose a theme (this time it’s Boho) then we pick an inspiration image or images from the webz. Once we have our inspiration we go thrifting!!! Then we share how we each accomplished the look or style with our thrift store finds!! I love this concept because even though all of us are working on a boho theme, we will all be inspired by this so differently. Boho Decor (in a nutshell)
Boho, or bohemian style is known as a much more casual and relaxed style typically – almost a “hippy-like” vibe. It’s about layering, layering in textiles with your vintage goodies, lots of plants, patterns and texture. Boho is eclectic and lived-in, personal and usually inspired by travel. It’s so fun, laid back and comfortable! I mean this looks so cozy, right?
Boho Inspired
This image is my inspiration photo (Image Source )
Truth be told… boho was freaking me out a bit for this challenge. haha There are a LOT of boho related images out there, the trick for me (this time around) was finding the items at the thrift store that fit with my image(s). YIKES!!! I found TWO things guys! TWO!!! So first off, don’t panic (of course I’m doing the opposite and PANICKING!!!)… secondly, I tell myself, “your whole home is filled with thrifted finds” – shop your thrifted home (and basement and closets and… beyond!). HA!
Frankly, I kind of focused on what I didn’t have to complete this boho-look, rather than making this look my own. Once I changed that negative thinking, I decided to use this boho styled shelf as a “guide” for what to add to my own shelves. These thrift the look challenges are a way to flex your styling muscles, play with a different aesthetic, emulate a style you may admire, you get it, it’s a guide.
My Boho Look
I think my chopstick “arrows” are so cute!!!
Once I got my thinking right, it actually went very quickly. I already had some wooden shelves that we built a few years back, you can see that post here. It was just a matter of playing with what I bought at the thrift store and the treasures I foraged from our home AND plants – yay for plants!

What I’m using to hold our matches
Blue planter
I ended up getting the tall blue pot (on the right), when I asked my Instagram followers, they all voted for the one on the right. I only ended up spending $7.00 for this thrift the look challenge, but again I only found 2 things while out hunting, thankfully I’m a thrift store NUT and have lots in my library (aka my hoard). 😉
Colour
I feel that colour is a very important guide when pulling your thrifted look together, more so then the actual items in your inspiration photo. The colours I focused on in my image were, blue, orange and gold / yellow. You may have noticed though that I don’t have a gold/brass rhino in my vignette. No biggy, I simply used a brass vintage water mister, that just made sense to me with all the plants I plan on adding. #PLANTOBSESSED
Texture
The textures (materials) I focused on were wood, feathers and wicker.
Shape / Movement
I love the way the inspiration shelves are staggered, I concentrated on staging our shelves staggered too, keeping the eye moving.
Last minute additions…
I recently bought a beaded chandelier off of FB marketplace (not technically thrifted), at the last minute I decided to hang it in within this vignette. I LOVE the way it looks hanging there, but – full disclosure; the whole vignette needs some work. I think I’ll save that for another post. 😉 I will be revisiting this space again, I mean if you guys like it… I love the boho vibe I’ve created and I need to explore this new to me decor trend!
Thank you so much for coming for a visit! I hope you are inspired to head to your local thrift stores and thrift a look you admire.

AMAZING in similarity and feel- you knocked this one out of the park, my friend!
Thanks Lady!!!
Like it?!?! I love it! I don’t know what you are freaking out about, you did such a great job!
Hahaha, thanks Tania. You’ll learn I tend to freak out for almost every project! 😉
This is so fun, Laurie! I love what you did with your version! I love the plants and the feathers…the arrows are perfect! It’s been fun doing this challenge with you…looking forward to the next one!
Thank you Linda! I loved doing this challenge with you too, it’s so much fun!
I love your version, Laurie! The strong cobalt blue with the brown vase and the brass spritzer, along with all the other textures; totally cool. And your photography is always stunning. I definitely think these challenges flex my design muscles…and I love it! Being able to pick our own pics this time made it even more fun, I think! So much variety all centered around a theme!
Thank you, Lora! After I put my negative thinking away, I had a lot of fun on this one, bonus that I was able to pick my own home too!
you killed it and yes, those arrows are LIFE.
Thank you my friend! I love those little arrows, I think I must make more!
Love love love! This came together so beautifully, even though you were trepidatious. The textures, the little chopstick arrows and that little glimpse of the beaded chandy (Bud is crazy, it IS awesome 😉) it’s just gorgeous. As always, well done my friend!
Haha, he is crazy! I was so shocked when he said he didn’t like it… He will once it’s hung at the right height. Thank you so much… even when I hit publish, I thought oh well, I hope people can see a similarity?
Bohoho. Nicely done. I wish I lived near your thrift store.
I’d love to go thrifting with you, how fun would that be! Thank you friend, I appreciate that!
So awesome Laurie! I love your chopstick arrows, too. What a brilliant idea! And that beaded chandie – hurry, hurry. I want to see more!! Your photography is killer. I am so impressed – I fought with my photos this time around, but your photos make it look just that easy!! Nicely done all the way around! 🙂
Thank you so much Sheila! <3
You had nothing to stress about, you nailed it!! The arrows, the plants, its perfect!
Thank you so much Alisa! xoxo
You, my dear, nailed it! Love every bit of it. ♡♡
Aw, thank you Larissa, that means so much to me!!!! xoxoxox
I’ve found it really difficult to decorate in a style that doesn’t particularly appeal to me. I lived through the hippie era so I’m not particularly fond of the look, but I think you’ve done a great job capturing the feel of boho, which seems to me to be a combination of hippie and Southwest, and put your own personal stamp on it. Your arrows are a hoot! Very clever. Does anyone know why arrows have become a part of this look?
